 The
first European explorer to reach Tennessee was the Spaniard, Hernan
DeSoto in 1540. Not only the conquistadores but also their horses
were covered in armor for protection against the Native populations of
the Southeast.

periods of Tennessee history get left out at this festival. New
and exciting re-enactors and camps are common each year. Here men
of color are encouraged to enlist in the army during the Civil War.
